Working on our projects
Before you get site access
Every company and every person working on an AF site must be approved and registered before work starts. That covers our own employees, subcontractors, hired-in labour, suppliers and drivers.
You will be given access once:
- your company is approved and you are registered as one of its workers
- you have attended the mandatory site induction
- you have completed the required HSE and safety courses
- you hold a valid HSE card and wear it visibly on site
These rules apply across AF Gruppen whenever one of our companies is the principal undertaking on a project.
Site induction and training
Everyone goes through a personal induction before setting foot on site. It covers, among other things:
- a personal safety declaration
- AF Gruppen's safety course
- any project-specific HSE and induction courses
The courses are a core part of how we work with safety, and they give everyone the same starting point for a strong safety culture.
Daily registration keeps track of who is on site
We log who is present on site every day. If something happens, we need to know exactly who is at work.
Machinery and equipment brought onto site must also be registered and documented before it is put to use.
Speak up — it makes us better
On an AF Gruppen project we want you to report hazards, unwanted incidents and near misses. That is expected, not optional.
Reporting is how we learn, improve and keep the site safer for everyone. Better to report one time too many than one time too few.
Mandatory safety courses
Three courses are mandatory for everyone on our projects: the introductory safety course, Hazard Blindness and Dangerous Patterns.
Together they make clear what we expect of you and how we work to prevent injuries.

Introductory safety course
A short introduction to safety and HSE for anyone new to a project. It walks through the key principles behind our safety work and takes about 20 minutes.
You will not get an email confirmation when you finish, so take a screenshot, or simply show the completed course in the mobile app if you are asked for proof.
Hazard Blindness
Hazard Blindness is basic safety training for everyone working on a building or civil engineering site. It is a reminder of how quickly we stop seeing the hazards we live with every day, and it sets out the life-saving rules that protect us.
Realistic scenarios follow David, who has gone hazard-blind, and show what happens when barriers and safety measures fail.
The course is available in several languages, and completed courses are registered automatically in the Project Register.
Dangerous Patterns
This course trains you to spot dangerous patterns in the working environment, in your surroundings and in your own behaviour. A series of situations gives you practice in picking up the warning signs and making the choices that prevent accidents and injuries.

PPE is mandatory at all times on AF Gruppen projects. As a minimum that means safety footwear, eye protection, gloves, a helmet with a chin strap and a high-visibility jacket or vest.
Anything beyond that minimum is covered in your HSE induction, in the signage on site and in the project's own HSE rules.
The minimum kit protects you against the hazards that come up most often on building and civil engineering sites: falling objects, cuts, crush injuries, dust and splashes, and the risk of not being seen by plant and vehicles. Worn properly, PPE is what stops a near miss from becoming a serious injury.
Equipment suited to the task
PPE has to match the job in hand, and a number of work operations call for extra or different equipment.
The rules apply to everyone on site, whatever your role and whoever employs you. Wearing PPE correctly is a condition of getting site access and of keeping it. Turn up without it, or choose not to use it, and you can be removed from the project.
