New course to help new employees understand the AF way

“The new introductory course is based on our fundamental principles for project management and is designed to give new employees a basic understanding of what characterises the AF way of running projects,” says Jonas Økland, Project Manager Risk and Strategy.

The introductory course in project management has been developed in collaboration with both business units and corporate staff functions. The goal has been to create a course with useful content for those encountering everyday project work at AF for the first time.

At AF, we have identified eight basic skills for good project management. These fundamental principles are:

• Project selection
• Customer relations
• Project organisation
• Planning
• Procurement expertise
• Financial management
• Contract management

The introductory course covers all the fundamental principles and also provides insight into every phase of a project.

“The introductory course in project management is a supplement to training and development in the line organisation. We believe this combination will prepare our new employees well for everyday project work at AF,” says Jonas.

Lars-Erik Lang is a new employee at AF Energi and tested the course during the pilot period.

“This course gives a good introduction to how projects are carried out at AF. For me, the course answered many questions and covered many things that are useful to know. It also provides valuable insight into what you may encounter when joining a project for the first time,” says Lars-Erik.

“I think the course will be useful for all new employees. It is also good to be able to use the course as a reference afterwards,” says Lars-Erik.

The introductory course has been developed and tested in collaboration with five business units and corporate staff functions. Both new and experienced employees have completed the course and provided feedback, helping to improve the quality and ensure that it meets the needs of the target group.

“The feedback has been constructive and positive throughout. Even though the course was created with new employees in mind, it is great to see that experienced employees also find it valuable. This is something everyone in the Group can benefit from,” says Jonas.

“The goal is to give everyone who joins AF a good start. New employees in the pilot units unanimously agreed that the course would have been useful when they first joined the company, so we now look forward to making it available across the entire company.”

The introductory course is currently available in Norwegian and English.
