Research and Development

Several of our companies actively participate in research and development projects in collaboration with both industry and academia. This contributes to increasingly sustainable production. Ongoing efforts are focused on developing concrete mixes optimized for strength, cost efficiency, and reduced emissions.

Upcycling Research Project

In parallel with improving concrete formulations, we aim to increase upcycling efforts to ensure materials maintain or even increase in value. For example, steel from ships can be reused in load-bearing structures.

AF Offshore Decom leads the research and innovation project “Oppsirk,” which aims to develop business models for upcycling more maritime steel into environmentally friendly construction materials. Supported by NOK 73 million from the Research Council of Norway under the “Green Platform” initiative, the project spans three years and aims to establish a new industry for upcycling, reducing the need for virgin raw materials and securing steel supplies for the Norwegian construction sector.
