No electronic sensor matches a dog’s nose in flexibility or capacity. Our explosive detection dogs are trained to find even tiny traces of explosives, making project sites safer.

In all areas where blasting has taken place or is planned, it is necessary to check for any unexploded explosives. Explosive residues may present a hazard to individuals involved in the project.

According to the Norwegian Directorate for Civil Protection (dsb.no), there were over 500 accidents and incidents involving explosives in Norway in 2023, primarily in the construction and civil engineering sector. Conducting a search with detection dogs prior to starting physical work on a construction or project site is a recommended safety measure to help reduce the risk of accidents.

AF Decom provides a specialised detection dog service. Our organisation utilises highly trained dogs and skilled handlers with extensive experience. The dogs are proficient in identifying civilian explosives, employing the same techniques as those used by the Armed Forces and humanitarian bodies engaged in mine clearance operations.

Our handlers are highly experienced in canine operations, having trained dogs for diverse missions and served on national and international assignments. They have extensive experience conducting explosive detection searches in the construction industry.

Our detection dog services cover a wide range of areas and are customised according to specific requirements.

We search for unexploded explosives before or during work in tunnels, quarries, construction sites, and building plots.

Detection dogs may be used after blasting and before refilling to provide a clear area overview and thorough documentation. We also conduct specialized searches.

Each search is unique, but all follow these common steps:

    • Conduct Safe Job Analysis (SJA) with contractor and client
    • Choose search method based on site (short leash, long leash, free search, or combination)
    • Use two dogs in the same area for greater control
    • Mark findings and points of interest with contractor agreement
