About the project
Removal was carried out using a combination of Piece Small and Reverse Installation methods while the Floating Production Unit (FPU) stayed afloat at the quayside, ensuring structural integrity and stability throughout the operation.
Stage-by-stage process
The semi-submersible rig, weighing approximately 18,500 tonnes, was cut up and processed onshore at the AF Environmental Base in Vats, near Haugesund. This was the first time a semi-submersible rig was recycled in Norway using this method, marking an important expansion of offshore decommissioning capabilities.
The project was executed in several phases:
Phase 1: Cleaning the processing plant and all associated piping and systems.
Phase 2: Demolition of the processing plant.
Phase 3: Cutting up and recycling the original rig structure.
The recycling rate achieved was between 95% and 98%, reinforcing a strong commitment to sustainability and circular solutions.
