Marine Growth Removal for 176 Offshore Wind Monopiles USA

Marine growth removal on 176 monopiles for an offshore wind farm off the East Coast of the USA.

About the project

Internal and external marine growth removal on 176 monopiles for an offshore wind farm off the East Coast of the USA, preparing the structures for grouting and installation of the turbine transition pieces.

Scope: Internal and external marine growth removal
Location: East Coast, USA
Industry: Offshore wind
Structures: 176 monopiles, 7.5 m diameter

Project type
Offshore wind

The scope included internal and external cleaning of the 7.5-metre-diameter monopiles to prepare them for grouting and installation of the turbine transition pieces.

To provide safe access to the internal flange area, Claxton’s in-house engineering team developed the purpose-built MGR-15 system. Designed to interface with a motion-compensated gangway from the vessel, the system included an integrated internal work platform, enabling efficient cleaning of the internal flange following external cleaning.

All 176 monopiles were successfully cleaned despite challenging offshore weather conditions. The bespoke solution helped reduce intervention time and improve operational efficiency throughout the project.
