Demolition - Offshore Enterprises
Since 2002, AF Decom has focused heavily on the demolition and removal of oil installations.
In co-operation with Total Fina Elf and ConocoPhillips, we have developed the "small piece" methodology for dismantling platforms out on the continental shelf using excavation machines and robots with dismantling tools mounted on them.
The removal of the Ekofisk 2/4 tank was performed from 2005 to 2007. You can read more about this job under reference projects.
AF Decom has established its own decommissioning yard for the dismantling and environmental clean-up of oil installations that will be transported with lifting vessels or barges to the decommissioning yard. The facility is located in Vats (Municipality of Vindafjord) and satisfies all the requirements of the oil companies and the authorities. The facility has the potential to accept all types of platforms. Read more about the facility under Vats Decommissioning yard.
The location of the decommissioning yard allows good possibilities for expansion. It has been proposed that approx. 420 offshore structures need to be removed from the North Sea over the next 20 years. In this growing market for bringing the scrapped offshore structures to land and disposing of them onshore, we are setting our sights on being a leading turnkey supplier.
The strategy is to grow with our vision:
AFD Offshore shall be the leading provider of offshore decommissioning services in the North Sea
- Feasibility studies
- Engineering services
- Removal and disposal of abandoned offshore installations either in full or in part
- Onshore disposal services at AF Decom‘s decommissioning yard in Vats
