AF offered a different method to remove the wreck than the Norwegian Coastal Administration had suggested in the tender. This resulted in AF was considered to have the best environmental profile among the competitors.
The AF method has significant advantages especially in terms of being able to control environmental aspects related to the removal of the wreck.
Water dispersal routes will be eliminated as the wrecksite will be dry, and the dry dock established around the wreck will serve as effective barriers against the proliferation of waste and other things that inevitably will fall from the wreck during the cutting and removal.
AF is planning to ship out finished steel processed fractions and other waste from the pier, built up beside the dry dock, directly to the plant for recycling. This saves the external environment for unnecessary storage and transport in the recycling phase. AF has a goal of minimum 95% recycling in the project.
