Demolition of the prior sulphuric acid production plant for Borregaard Industries Limited in Sarpsborg. The factory was located in Borregaard's industrial area.
The project included the demolition and removal of a 100 m tall smokestack with a steel skeleton and evaporation conduit, dismantling of a large exterior and interior processing plant, including a purification plant and a calcination building with reactors, furnaces and a 120 m long pyrite conveyor, etc. In addition, AF Decom has removed a 24 m tall steel unloader and a total of 6 concrete siloes that have been used for storing pyrite ash from the production of sulphuric acid in the Melløs area. Four of the siloes were 27 m tall, whereas two of the siloes were nearly 40 m tall. A mobile crane with a ball was used to demolish the highest parts of the taller siloes. The project was finished at the end of December 2006. The degree of recycling from the project was 97.5 %. Key figures for the quantities of waste from the project were 3,170 tons of metals, 9,000 tons of concrete and 23 tons of asbestos.
