Nydalen Energy Central

Nydalen Energy Central is Northern Europe's largest of its kind and produces 50% of the energy of the associated buildings in Nydalen needs in an environmentally friendly way (using geothermal technology).

Central supply 170,000 sqm with 135,000 sqm heating and cooling and is based on heat pumps that derive energy from the ground (geoenergi) and from the surplus heat from cooling systems in buildings.

AF designed the energy solution, and has been responsible for construction management of the project.

Central provides energy to the Nydalen Campus (BI), the Radisson SAS hotel, residences at Solsiden and new office buildings built after 2003 in Nydalen. With the help of an energy storage in rock excess energy can be saved in the summer and brought up again in winter. There are 180 wells drilled 200 meter down in the rock, so that the total energy store consists of 2.000.000 m3 rock.

In 2007, we saved approximately 3,000 tonnes of CO2, ie the same as 1214 cars driving 15.000 km / year. (Ref Co2 focus). In a few years, when Nydalen is ready for development and utility station is in full use, we will save 4,500 tonnes of CO2 per year, ie 1821 cars driving 15.000 km / year. (Ref Co2 focus).
