AF has built Lofoten's mainland connection, the Austerstraumen - Gullesfjordbotn section of the highway E10.
The contract consists of building a total of 14.6 km of roadway. Of this, the Sørdal Tunnel (6.4 km) will comprise a significant part. The tunnel lies 6.5 km into the roadless Sørdal area.
Access to the tunnel will be built as a pilot road along the route of the road.
The Sørdal Tunnel will be blasted from one side, and will run with a slight drop. Approx. 1.5 km of roadway must be built roadlessly on the west side of the tunnel.
The line of the road runs in part through undisturbed nature and the work on the construction of the road has been subjected to very strict environmental restrictions.
