Historical review

The development of hydroelectric power in Norway in the 1970s and up through the middle of the 1980s formed the basis for AF. A majority of the founders of AF were associated with the development of Dammer Vatnedalsvatn in Setesdalen during 1979-1984. Large parts of this environment, and many of the company's key employees have also participated in building Norway's infrastructure by taking part in the construction of other significant hydroelectric power facilities. After it was founded in 1985, AF was shaped during the execution of Dam Dokkfløyvatn in 1986-1991.  The construction company part of AF was assembled in the first years for this project. The company's culture was formed by the thorough, well-organised and goal-oriented execution that has come to characterise the good hydroelectric power  projects.

AF has constructed tunnels for railway and highways during the last 15 years. Among the projects performed, is the construction of the railway tunnels Jong-Asker and the airport expresstrain tunnel Romeriksporten, the road tunnels Oslofjord sub sea tunnel and the Lofast tunnel and road section.

AF has also constructed several rock caverns for industrial purposes, among them the construction of the oil storage caverns for Norsk Hydro, the New Oset Water Treatment plant in Oslo and latest the sub surface parking garage in Fredrikstad.
